On September 19, 2013, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that reveals master details of their proposed wireless charging system. Apple's first patent application on this future wireless system was revealed in November 2012. In Apple's latest patent filing, their engineering team goes into more detail covering such things as the wireless power source, the wireless power delivery system and how the system will power nearby peripherals and more. The patent also hints that future peripherals may include an authentication module. Whether that means that Apple's Touch ID will extend to other peripherals in the future is unknown at this time. Generally speaking, Apple's inventions from scratch to finish take time to come to market. Yet with the release of their sexy new Mac Pro and maybe an iMac upgrade this fall, introducing an advanced wireless system to go along with it would be wildly applauded. Keep in mind that the latter is just a thought and not a rumor – but damn that would be nice.

In an interview with AllThingsD after the iPhone 5's Special Event held in September, Phil Schiller stated to Ina Fried that "wireless charging systems still have to be plugged into the wall, so it's not clear how much convenience they add." Schiller added "Having to create another device you have to plug into the wall is actually, for most situations, more complicated." Obviously Schiller was fully aware of the wireless charging system that the Crazy Ones in Cupertino were developing and today the US Patent Office published the patent application behind Apple's future charging system that could charge an entire virtual charging area worth of devices at one time without the need of a charging pad of any kind. The catch is that you'll have to purchase a next generation iMac with upgraded peripherals for it to work.

Many times in the past Steve Jobs had said that Apple had no interest in phones or tablets and thought that network computers were silly with this concept of data residing somewhere in a cloud in the sky. Everything that he said that Apple had no interest in eventually came to be. After Apple's special iPhone 5 event earlier this month, Phil Schiller tried to do the same thing in respect to wireless inductive charging. Was his "marketing speak" just another head-fake? Well, according to a new patent published by the US Patent and Trademark Office, Apple's engineers never got the memo on Apple not being interested wireless inductive charging. In fact the crazy ones in Cupertino hit a home run with a winning in-depth inductive charging dock this time around. This design doesn't have a funny-funky pole like past designs. No, this one has some pretty interesting twists and will come with a handy user interface and much, much more.  

 
On August 4, 2011, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that reveals two specific concepts of an "Inductive Charging System" for use with iOS devices. The first concept involves an oddly designed charging tower. Apple envisions a user wrapping their earphone cables around this charging tower and placing a new conductive metal mesh earphone on the media device to begin the charging process. The second system, which seems to be a little more practical, involves an acoustic charging mechanism which wouldn't require a charging tower. Instead of creating separate inductive chargers for various media players and tablets as others have done, Apple is trying to create a single inductive charger that would fit the needs of multiple devices.
