Apple Files for new Figurative Trademarks Covering 'WidgetKit' & more

1 cover WidgetKit

This week Apple filed for two figurative trademarks. The first covers a developer icon representing 'WidgetKit' which is about easily building widgets and making them available across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS using the WidgetKit framework and the new widget API for SwiftUI. The second figurative trademark is an interesting one representing the development, production, distribution, and presentation of radio programs, podcasts, television programs, motion pictures and multimedia entertainment content. At present, what it's specifically titled is unknown.

(3-Figured) Figurative Trademark

Apple has filed for a figurative trademark as presented below that is described by Apple this way: "The mark consists of three intersecting silhouettes of people, the central silhouette in blue, the silhouette to the left in purple, and the silhouette on the right in green."

Oddly figurative trademark applications don't force the applicant to provide a specific service or product the icon is actually for. No "Specimen" was provided that would have shown an Apple webpage illustrating how it's being used. If you happen to know what the icon specifically represents, please let us know at pafeedback@shaw.ca

Apple filed for their trademark under International Class 009. At times like this, Apple legal files the trademark under an overkill of coverage as presented below.

5 WidgetKit Int'l Class 009 coverage

It should be noted that International trademark classes that Apple files their trademarks under are important as the trademark registration will only protect those classes that have been identified in their original application. In a legal battle, the classes filed for originally could make or break a legal case.
