BOE and GIS Partner to win orders for Out-Cell Touch Modules for one of Apple's 5G iPhone models
In late January Patently Apple posted a report titled "While BOE will enter Apple's OLED Supply Chain in 2020, its Big Push will begin in 2021," followed by a second report in late February titled "BOE has Invested in OLED module lines exclusively for Apple." A new supply chain report today has new information about BOE being an Apple supplier for 2020.
This morning Digitimes is reporting that "BOE Technology reportedly has teamed up with touch panel maker General Interface Solution (GIS) to develop an out-cell touch module looking to grab orders from Apple for one of its 5G iPhone devices slated for launch in the second half of 2020."
GIS was one of the inventors behind Qualcomm's 3D Sonic under display fingerprint technology. It was rumored back in December 2019 that GIS is behind the mini-LED display for the 2020 iPad Pro.
Will this translate to Apple introducing an under display version of Touch ID for one of Apple's higher end 5G iPhones later this year like Huawei has had for some time now? Only time will tell.
