Apple has been Granted 26 Design Patents in Hong Kong Covering Three major Themes including Apple Store Layouts

In the past few weeks Apple has been granted 26 design patents by the Hong Kong Patent Office. The patent office, for whatever reason, filed them out of sequence in the hopes of not being discovered. The patents are broken into three main themes including Apple Watch, store displays and store layouts.

Unlike "patent applications" that provide the public with abstract, summary and full details of an invention, design patents published around the world are limited to only providing the public with design patent figures. No additional specifics of the design are made available.

The wide variety of design patents granted to Apple only provide us with patent figures. Beginning with Apple Watch, there is no explanation as to why part of the straps and watch body are highlighted as they are and divided in red, grey or black. It's frustrating to have no insights into the granted designs that we're seeing. Hopefully in the future that will change. For now, take a look at the selected patent figures below.

Apple Watch

Apple Watch designs were filed under Locarno Class 14-02, 03 and 04 covering data processing apparatus and devices; telecommunications, wireless remotes; and screen displays and icons. Apple was granted 3 design patents for this design category.

Apple Store Tables

Apple Store table designs were filed under Locarno Class 6-03 covering tables and other furniture.

In total there were 8 design patents illustrating various table configurations with some in color and some in black and white. The three main designs are presented below

5 Apple Store presentatioin Table with center display

The last figure above is a specialized table with pop-up ports. Patently Apple covered this style of store table in a patent report back in November 2015. There's a YouTube video here from their Singapore Store showing this table in action using a hand gesture.

Perspectives of an Apple Store Layout

Apple Store perspective layouts were filed under Locarno Class 20-02 covering display and sales equipment

8 Apple store various perspectives a store layout

Apple was granted 10 design patents covering this category of store perspectives.

The 26 granted patents from Hong Kong each have a minimum of four angles per design which translates to roughly 105 images in total. The 21 individual figures presented above are selected images from each category that captures the heart of each major design.
