Israel's Corephotonics Files Third Patent Infringement Case against Apple over iPhones with Dual-Aperture Cameras
Patently Apple posted a report in Q4 2017 titled "One of the Pioneers in Dual Camera Technologies Corephotonics Sues Apple on Four Counts of Patent Infringement." The report back then noted that Corephotonics was collaborating with Samsung and backed by Foxconn, MediaTek and others. They're smartphone technology is based on the use of a dual lens camera that produces photos with the bokeh effect. In that lawsuit the iPhone 7 Plus was the infringing device. Then in 2018 Corephotonics filed a second patent infringement case against Apple and expanded Apple's infringing products to include iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.
Yesterday Corephotonics filed their third patent infringement case against Apple in the Northern District of California using a new round of ten Corephotonics patents that extends their case to include the iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone Xs and Xs Max as presented below:
9,661,233: Dual aperture zoom digital camera
10,230,898: Dual aperture zoom camera with video support and switching / non-switching dynamic control
10,317,647: Miniature telephoto lens assembly
10,324,277: Miniature telephoto lens assembly
10,330,897: Miniature telephoto lens assembly
10,326,942: Dual aperture zoom digital camera
10,356,332: Dual aperture zoom camera with video support and switching / non-switching dynamic control
10,015,408: Dual aperture zoom digital camera
10,225,479: Dual aperture zoom digital camera
10,288,840: Miniature telephoto lens module and a camera utilizing such a lens module
One of the formal complaints in the court document reads: "Corephotonics spent years demonstrating its technologies to Apple and discussing potential collaborations and business arrangements. Apple, however, refused. Instead, Apple has gone ahead and marketed its newest generations of iPhones with dual cameras that employ Corephotonics’ innovative designs – without any regard to Corephotonics’ intellectual property rights."
The complaint lays a detailed account of the meetings between Corephotonics and Apple regarding dual-aperture cameras prior to Apple bringing such a camera to market. The read is interesting, though at present we've yet to hear Apple's side of the story.

Corephotonics v Apple, Patent Infringement Case Aug 14, 2019 - Patently Apple by Jack Purcher on Scribd
As we noted at the top of our report, Corephotonics was collaborating with Samsung and backed by Foxconn, MediaTek and others. Rumors swirled, mainly in Israel (01, 02, 03) that Samsung had acquired Corephotonics. The patent infringement case doesn't mention Samsung and nothing official was ever published by Samsung regarding the acquisition. Most Apple acquisitions find their way to the public via rumors and not by Apple officially, so it's not an uncommon practice.
