Apple sued for Patent Infringement Relating to their 'Low Power Mode' feature found in iPhones and iPads
LBT IP has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple in Delaware. The company claims that Apple's mobile products that include a "low power mode" feature that reduces or stops certain background activities like GPS functionality in order to conserve battery life infringes on their long standing technology.
Patent Troll LBT IP acquired the five patents in this case from Location Based Technologies, Inc (LBT) based in Orange County, CA. The troll cleverly named their legal entity to appear as if they were the original filers of these patents. Unlike the company out of California that actually makes and sells products, the troll is in it for the money and nothing else.
LBT's Five Patents that Apple allegedly Infringes
The lawsuit filed yesterday lists five U.S. Patents that Apple products (iPhone and iPad) allegedly infringe as follows:
- U.S. Patent No. 8,497,774, titled "Apparatus and Method for Adjusting Refresh
Rate of Location Coordinates of a Tracking Device."
- U.S. Patent No. 8,542,113, titled "Apparatus and Method for Determining
Location and Tracking Coordinates of a Tracking Device."
- U.S. Patent No. 8,102,256, titled "Apparatus and Method for Determining
Location and Tracking Coordinates of a Tracking Device."
- U.S. Patent No. 8,421,618, titled "Apparatus and Method for Determining
Location and Tracking Coordinates of a Tracking Device," and
- U.S. Patent No. 8,421,619, titled “Apparatus and Method for Determining Location and Tracking Coordinates of a Tracking Device."
