Apple wins Patent for Future iPhones with Textured Backside Glass

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 51 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today. In this particular report we cover Apple's invention of providing a spot or global textures to the back glass of an iPhone. Not only will it be textured to provide users with a better grip for their iPhones but also provide "a decorative layer" on the glass to help improve the appearance of the rear housing wall.

 

As an owner of an iPhone XR, the slick glass on the backside makes it easy to drop it when not using a case. Providing textured glass would be beneficial on future iPhones.

 

Apple granted patent #10,292,286 notes that "A region of the rear housing wall may have a matte appearance formed from a textured surface. Textured surfaces may be formed directly on the glass layer and/or textured surfaces may be formed on thin glass layers and polymer films that are coupled to the glass layer.

Patently Apple covered this invention as a patent application in January 2019.  Apple's granted patent was originally filed in Q1 2017 and published today by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
