Apple Stuns Apple Fans by Admitting that their Multi-Device Charging Pad Branded 'AirPower' has been Officially Cancelled
It was just Monday that AppleInsider reported that "Apple's AirPower charging mat might be on the verge of release, as an image on the company's second-generation AirPods retail box depicts a wireless charger with a design nearly identical to that of the long-delayed device." It's gone from that positive report to the reality that the long delayed AirPower product has been officially cancelled.
In a rather stunning admission, Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering stated in an email statement:
"After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward."
A wave of Patents surfaced at the U.S. Patent Office over the last year showing Apple placing a lot of emphasis on attempting to overcome overheating issues in very complex and sophisticated ways including the use of machine learning that we have logged in our Archives. More than likely it was the inability to overcome heating issues that killed the project.
Apple acquired a leading company in this field to ensure that they could deliver such a product. Apple acquired Power by Proxy back in 2017. What a waste of time and money that was.
Unfortunately this is really a black eye for Apple's reputation. They committed to an announcement of the product and then absolutely failed to deliver.
