Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked Event just ended and it covered a lot of new product territory. Before the rumors ever got off the ground our Patently Mobile IP Blog has been covering Samsung's display patents for 7 years as they were published. Our archives show Samsung's exploration and research into future foldable, scrollable and flexible displays for smartphones and beyond. Today Samsung unveiled their first to market "Galaxy Fold" smartphone. Next week Huawei will be introducing their first foldable smartphone and it'll be interesting to see and compare the two products of a new smartphone category.

Samsung Galaxy S10
The new Samsung Galaxy S10 offers the world's first "Dynamic AMOLED" display that could film in HDR10+. It comes with 42% less blue light that's easier on your eyes. The display delivers the first ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on the market. The display is brilliant delivering impressively bright 1200 nits. Samsung unveils Galaxy Fold Smartphone
At $1,980 U.S. or $2,600 Canadian, the Galaxy Fold is for the Rich and Famous. But if you have the money to burn, it's really a phone and mini-tablet all-in-one. For a first generation folding phone it's quite impressive knowing it will evolve and continually be refined.

At the end of the day, Samsung has to be applauded for having the courage to bring a new smartphone category to market even if it's not perfect. Many innovations and hard work went into bringing such a product to market and that work should be recognized.
Random Screenshots of the Event
Our Patently Mobile IP blog posted a report yesterday titled "The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has just published Samsung's Trademark Filing for 'Bixby Routine'." Today Samsung introduced this feature and you could read about it here.
One More Thing: Last summer Patently Mobile posted a report titled "Samsung's Ultrasonic based Fingerprint Scanner for under a Smartphone Display was confirmed in a Patent this week." Today Samsung introduced this very feature. What's unknown is whether Samsung implemented a pure solution from their patent or collaborated with Qualcomm to come up with a custom hybrid solution.
