SpeakWare Inc. Sues Apple, Samsung & Microsoft for Patent Infringement Relating to Digital Assistants Controlling Appliances
A company by the name of SpeakWare, Inc. has filed patent infringement lawsuits against Apple, Samsung and Microsoft. The accused have allegedly infringed patent 6,397,186 titled "Hands-Free, Voice-Operated Remote Control Transmitter" issued in 2002. The accused products relate to voice activated systems controlling appliances.
More specifically, SpeakWare's formal complaint before the courts states that "Apple has developed, manufactured, imported, offered for sale, sold, and used voice-activated systems for controlling appliances that infringe the '186 patent. These systems include Apple iPhones (6s or later), iPads (6th generation or later and "Pro"), and HomePods, all of which use Apple's voice-activated virtual assistant, Siri, to control appliances. These systems can also include associated servers owned or controlled by Apple that enable and work in connection with the accused devices to control appliances. These systems can also include Apple TVs, which work in connection with the accused devices to control appliances."

The patent infringement case presented in today's report was filed in the California Central District Court by SpeakWare, Inc. At present, no Judge has been assigned to the case.
