Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that relates to design, procedures and graphical user interfaces for haptic mixing.
Apple is being secretive about this invention as their European filing provides no patent figures or any related documents detailing the invention which is customary.
Even working backwards via the inventor's name Douglas A. Scott didn't provide a match to this particular invention. Scott has been associated with many Apple patents regarding haptics. One granted patent with his name as inventor was published back in February of this year titled Haptic Notifications.
Apple's latest haptics related patent filed in Europe in October only provides a patent abstract that reads as follows:
"An electronic device receives a plurality of requests to generate a plurality of tactile outputs, including two or more overlapping tactile outputs, using the one or more tactile output generators. In response, the device generates and outputs combined tactile outputs. If the plurality of tactile outputs exceeds a threshold number of tactile outputs that is permitted to be mixed together for concurrent output, the device mixes a subset of the plurality of tactile outputs together into a combined tactile output that excludes at least one of the plurality of tactile outputs to produce a combined tactile output that is output via the device´s one or more tactile output generators."
Apple's European Filing
Apple's European patent filing was made on September 19, 2016 and published on October 16, 2017.
The International Patent Classification (IPC) related to this specific invention is noted as being GO6F 3/01. The breakdown of this international classification is noted in full below:
06: Computing; Calculating; Counting
F: Electric Digital Data Processing
3: Input arrangements for transferring data to be processed into a form capable of being handled by the computer; Output arrangements for transferring data from processing unit to output unit, e.g. interface arrangements
01: input arrangements or combined input and output for interaction between user and computer.
