Microsoft has taken their HoloLens into Education to get the Leap on their Competitors

Windows Mixed Reality and Microsoft HoloLens transform abstract concepts into 3D experiences in the classroom, enabling students to investigate more deeply, see more clearly, and learn by doing. One teacher in the video noted below states: "I was tired of preparing kids for yesterday. You're always preparing kids for this world that doesn't really exist anymore and wasn't going to exist when they graduated. And I wanted to get my kids to the point that they could actually build the future." That may be a nice commercial to be sure, but education could be advanced in the not-too-distant future when more and more classes could find a way to bring their subject matter to life through Mixed Reality.

Apple is reportedly working on an advanced Augmented or Mixed Reality headset. Apple takes a holistic to certain products and this is no different. We know that Apple is working on the possible use of a Micro-LED display for their headset; they're working on a specialty Augmented Reality display for Macs; they're working on a possible 3D UI supporting Augmented Reality. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Yet in the short run Microsoft definitely has gotten the leap on Apple in education with their HoloLens. Of course it's a little too early in this new category for a competitor to have a mild lead and take it too seriously. This is not a sprint, it's a full marathon. Though cheers to Microsoft for trying to bring something new to market that they could be proud of, instead of always chasing all-things Apple.

Microsoft introduced a new operating system for education earlier today as well as a new Surface Laptop that you could check out in our new report covering these developments.
