Indian Officials Claim that Wistron will begin manufacturing iPhones for India in May
State Officials in Karnataka, Bengaluru, India confirm that trial assembly of iPhones will begin in May at the Winstron plant in Peenya despite the fact that the special concessions that Apple has sought have not made much headway with the Indian government thus far.
Officials in Bengaluru are unhappy with the progress with negotiations that could bring a whole new high tech ecosystem to the region. Karnataka's information technology minister Priyank Kharge told the publication that the 'Center' must encourage high-end tech manufacturing if it is serious about their "Make in India" campaign.
Karge added that "As the Indian ecosystem is still not developed enough to provide high-precision components, the Center much first let Apple and other global technology companies start somewhere. What India is battling with today is akin to the chicken and egg question."
