Last month Patently Apple posted a report titled "Home Automation: Apple Keeps their Eye on the Prize," wherein we noted Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of product marketing stating that "We want to bring home automation to the mainstream, and the best place to start is at the beginning, when a house is just being created." Well that was certainly a humble statement considering that KB Home just unveiled the nation's first HomeKit-enabled community at its Promenade at Communications Hill in San Jose today. KB Home is the first home builder to make a HomeKit smart-home package available to home buyers. Along with its introduction at Promenade at Communications Hill, the Apple HomeKit package will also be available for buyers at KB Home's Magnolia at Patterson Ranch community.
KB's press release states that "A model home showcasing how KB homeowners can simply and securely monitor and control Apple HomeKit-compatible accessories, such as lighting, door locks and other security features, and more, conveniently from their iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, is now open at Promenade at Communications Hill.
Apple's Home app delivers a simple and secure interface to manage HomeKit-integrated home automation products in one place, allowing homeowners to connect and control their environment whether at home or away. For example, the Home app allows users to set customized scenes, such as "Leaving Home," which could turn off lights, lock the doors, and lower the thermostat.
The three-story floor plans available at Promenade range in size from 2,148 to 2,178 square feet, and can be built with up to five bedrooms, four baths, and a two-car garage. Pricing begins in the low-$900,000s. Below are a few of the KB Home exteriors available to future smart home buyers.
