Indian Rumor Claims Apple Eyeing three Locations for first Stores
Earlier today we posted a report titled "Apple's CEO Attended Developer Event in Beijing Apple Store with Didi Chuxing's President," wherein we noted that Tim Cook would be in India on Tuesday. Ahead of tomorrow's visit there's speculation out of India that Apple has been given the go ahead for their first three stores in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai.
The relatively new Indian blog also claimed that Apple will unveil a new start-up accelerator for the Indian market in this week to incubate ideas mostly around applications built for iOS, Apple's mobile operating system. For more on this, see the Factor Daily report here (via MacRumors).
Last week we reported that Foxconn was on the cusp of signing a deal allowing them to set up an iPhone plant in the Western Indian state of Maharashtra. Apple's CEO Tim Cook noted during their Q2 2016 financial conference that sales for the iPhone in India grew 56% year-over-year.
While today's rumor sounds encouraging, such rumors had false starts last month trying to get ahead of the curve – so a little patience is needed until the news is final.
