KGI Securities Reiterates Claim of an All-Glass iPhone Coming in 2017
Last month we posted a report titled "Apple may push the Design Envelope with a Curved Glass iPhone." Ming-Chi Kuo at KGI Securities was noted as stating at the time that Apple's 2017 iPhone will feature a completely new form factor that includes curved glass casing with a comfortable grip. In that report we clearly pointed out that Apple has a killer patent on record covering a liquid metal based glass iPhone design that Apple interestingly revisited earlier this year. This morning 9to5Mac reports that KGI's Ming-Chi Kuo put out a follow-up note to clients that the 2017 iPhone will be dropping its current aluminum casing design for an all-glass enclosure.
It's further noted that the new iPhone will support an OLED display, something we knew way before KGI forecasted it. With so much emphasis being placed on a radical all-glass design for 2017, it makes you wonder what great motivating factors will be coming to this year's iPhone 7. Back to back design shifts for the iPhone have never been done before and so it would appear that we're missing a piece of the puzzle here with KGI's forecast.
Is Apple stepping up their design game in general to keep the competition from copying their designs as quickly as they have been of late or will the 2017 iPhone simply be a one-time special iPhone design to mark its tenth anniversary? As always, only time will tell.
