In early June we posted a report titled "Samsung may Quickly Shift Tactics against Apple's 4.7" iPhone 6 by releasing a 5.7" Galaxy S6 Edge later this summer." It was first revealed then that Samsung was looking to add a new smartphone to their line-up that would mimicked Apple's two tier iPhones by adding a 5.7 inch model and even call it the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. With Samsung missing their quarter due to sluggish Galaxy S6 sales, a new report from Korea today shows that Samsung wants to release their new phablets earlier than scheduled to get ahead of Apple's new iPhones that are being ordered in massive quantities.

According to a newly published Korean report, Samsung Electronics is expected to launch the sales of the Galaxy Note 5 sometime next month. In addition, the company is also likely to release a new version of the Galaxy S6 Edge which would have a larger screen than the current one. Samsung has filed for the "Galaxy S6 Edge Plus" trademark in the U.S. and so the new larger S6 is likely to take on the new branding.

Sources close to the firm said, "If the development process goes as smoothly as planned, it would be possible for Samsung to reveal new products in early or mid-August and start selling them from mid- or late August."

Samsung Electronics plans to place its strategic focus on phablets in the second half of this year, based on its judgment that consumer preference for phablets is high not only in the world's largest smartphone market China but in the United States.

The Galaxy Note 5 and the larger screen Galaxy S6 Edge each will have a screen size of 5.7 inches and 5.5 inches. Key factors behind Samsung's move to launch new products earlier than scheduled include its desire to give a fresh impetus to the sluggish mobile business.
