While it was known that LG was originally the exclusive Apple Watch display supplier and likely to have extended that contract, a new Korean report says that Apple is now talking to Samsung for being a secondary supplier if not usurping LG due to a new OLED development.

One report specifically noted that "Samsung is working on new modules that would allow the device to be thinner and lighter while the resolution, overall design and touch panel structure will remain the same."

Lee Choong-hoon, president of market research firm UBI research was quoted as saying in the report that "The two-track strategy of Apple is not surprising at all if you consider that Samsung Display and LG Display are the only manufacturers that roll out flexible OLED displays."

Last week we reported that Samsung was vying to re-enter Apple's iPhone NAND chip supply chain.
