At the top of the month we reported that Samsung could quickly shift tactics against Apple's iPhone by leaping to larger displays. For instance, Samsung would shift to selling a 5.7" Galaxy S6 model to compete with Apple's 4.7 inch iPhone. Where the rumors got murky is when they couldn't figure out what Samsung was going to do with their next Galaxy Note if the S6 takes on larger displays. These rumors reignited this morning in Korea with a new twist.
South Korea's Newsis news site reported this week that "In order to offset competition from Apple's next generation iPhone that is expected to be released in the second half of 2015, Samsung Electronics is pushing R&D for its next Galaxy S smartphone being referred to as Galaxy S7, with the intention of releasing the device also in the second half of the year."
The report further noted that "Samsung is aiming to release the device 2-3 months ahead of schedule so that it would have a release date in late 2015, making it the first time the company would release two different Galaxy S series smartphones in one year."
What exactly Samsung intends to do in an attempt to overtake Apple's iPhone success this fall is unknown, but the rumor mill is stuck on believing that something out of the ordinary is going to take place this fall. Is it just wishful thinking on their part or are these consistent rumors really on to something? Only time will tell.
