Foxconn Eying OLED Displays for Smartphones and Wearables

10PX2. Patently Xtra RUMOR
In November we reported that Foxconn was partnering with Innolux on a new display plant for 2015 for one client exclusively that sources claim is Apple. Today we've learned that the new plant will also manufacture OLED panels in the 2016 or 2017 time frame. The research for the OLED equipment is being handled by Foxconn Japan.

The Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun report states that the OLED displays are being developed for wearable devices like a watch and 5 inch smartphones with 400 ppi. For the sake of comparison, the current iPhone 6 offers 326 ppi on a 4.7 inch display.
