Even North Korea's Kim Jong-un loves his iPhone 6
Apple's product appeal is not only for the rich and famous around the world. It's also the favorite choice of dictators. A new report out of Seoul Korean today notes that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has a preference for Apple products which has led to a iPhone craze in their country, even though very few are likely to be in a position to get one.
Speculation has it that the supreme leader of North Korea is a fan of Apple products as a photo released recently by media shows an iMac computer on Kim's desk. A noted inside source stated that "Kim Jong-un buys the latest model of the iPhone as soon as it hits the market."
About 70% of the country's smartphone users are in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang that has a population of over 3 million. The rich, even in North Korea, prefer imported smartphones like the iPhone as symbols of wealth and something to brag about. The iPhone is much preferred over their local brand called Arirang.
Of course, the Young North Korean Leader's choice will be considered the most desirable to imitate. According to the report, Kim not only buys the phones for himself but sends new phones to higher-ranking officials as gifts.
According to the report, the imported iPhones comply with the North Korean telecommunication systems only after adjustments are made by technicians. The logos of Apple iPhone are always removed in the final process.
