In August we reported that Microsoft was eyeing a prime New York Location for a high-end retail store just blocks away from Apple's classic glass cube store on Fifth Avenue. Today Microsoft confirmed that their first Manhattan flagship store has been given the green light.
The Wall Street Journal report quoted David Porter, corporate vice president for Microsoft retail stores stating that "As our first flagship store, it will serve as the centerpiece of our Microsoft Stores experience. This is a goal we've had since day one—we were only waiting for the right location. And now we have it."
The Fifth Avenue location, currently a Fendi shop, sits in the center of a glitzy shopping corridor and is several blocks south of Apple's upper Fifth Avenue, known as a high-end retail destination for both tourists and locals.
Microsoft plans to open ten more Microsoft stores in the U.S. and Canada in time for the holiday season. One of the Canadian Stores recently opened in Calgary's Chinook Center shopping mall close to Canada's first Nordstrom's store and about a five minute walk to the Apple Store.
