Apple Files for "iBooks" & "iBook Store" Trademarks in Canada

COVER - IBOOKS & IBOOK STORE TRADEMARKS
Patently Apple has recently discovered that Apple Inc. has filed for two new trademarks in Canada for "iBooks" and the "iBook Store" or "iBookStore" under applications 1468914 and 1468910 respectfully – in February 2010. Apple's trademark filings cover an extraordinary wide swath of wares and services that may point to future service possibilities – beyond just books. One of them relates to subscription services for which music is one, yet because it also covers subscription services in general, it means that theoretically Apple could introduce the concept of a book rental business – something which would be in-between an outright purchase of a book and a free electronic-book from a public library. This report covers Apple's full class description details along with a few very interesting highlights which includes the mention of a possible "consumer loyalty program."

A Few Interesting Highlights

While Apple's filing covers all manner of electronic publishing, such as books, plays, pamphlets, brochures, newsletters, journals, magazines, and periodicals – Apple also seeks to have their trademarks spill over to "printed" equivalents should they wish to right-out challenge Amazon.

In context to Apple's acquisition of Lala, it should be noted that Apple's latest trademark filing covers Apple once again as an application service provider (ASP) and covers services featuring "software for use in connection with online music subscription service…"

In Context to Apple's acquisition of Quattro Wireless, Apple's latest trademark filing covers the "dissemination of advertisements and advertising material; administration of consumer loyalty programs; arranging and conducting incentive rewards programs to promote the sale of goods and services…"

Extraordinarily Detailed Trademark Application

There are three distinct trademark classifications found in Apple's trademark filings for "WARES" in addition to four distinct trademark classifications for "SERVICES." The classifications in the filing are not noted as being related to specific International Classifications.
