Samsung’s first-gen XR Headset being released this year will provide a higher-end display than the 2024 Apple Vision Pro
A new supply chain report states that Samsung Electronics is reviewing a dual plan to receive OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) for its first extended reality (XR) headset, 'Project Infinite', from Sony and Samsung Display, with Sony being the primary vendor.
Apple’s 2024 Vision Pro OLEDoS display was 1.42 inches with a pixel density of 3391 PPI. Samsung’s XR Headset this fall will offer higher specifications of a 1.3-inch screen and a pixel density of around 3800 PPI (Pixels Per Inch).
Samsung Electronics' project infinite shipment plan for this year is not much, at around 100,000 units. However, in the long term, if the market grows, a stable supply chain is needed. Sony is focusing on efficient operation rather than expanding Oledos production capacity. Sony is reluctant to expand production facilities because its main business is the entertainment sector. Sony has also rejected Apple's request to expand Oledos production capacity in the past.
Samsung Display can build up its Oledos mass production and replace Sony over time. For more, read the full report by The Elec.
