Samsung is set to introduce their iPhone Air Competing smartphone next week at a Samsung Event
A year ago, Analyst Jeff Pu predicted that Apple was working on a new iPhone-Slim. By November 2024, a rumor from ETNews claimed that Samsung was in fact working on a slim smartphone to compete with Apple’s future slim model. Today, Samsung released a teaser video promoting their new Galaxy S25 Edge (slim model) that will be introduced late on May 13, 2025 on Samsung.com.
CNBC reports that the latest in the Galaxy S25 series, the Edge variant is designed to deliver flagship-level performance without compromising on form. Samsung says the device reflects “a breakthrough in precise engineering,” with every detail — from contours to components — built to elevate the mobile experience [and of course, inspired by Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air].
The Galaxy S25 Edge will bring Samsung’s 200MP wide lens — previously seen in the S25 Ultra — in a dual-camera setup, paired with enhanced Galaxy AI, which turns the camera into a context-aware lens. From intelligent scene recognition to intuitive editing and sharing, the AI tools aim to transform mobile photography into a more creative and seamless process.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is said to feature a 6.7-inch QHD display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, encased in a titanium frame with a unique Gorilla Glass Ceramic front — a first for Samsung. The back, meanwhile, will be protected with Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and the phone will carry the usual IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
But what truly sets the Galaxy S25 Edge apart is its form factor. At just 5.85mm thick and weighing 163g, it's nearly 1.5mm thinner than its siblings and barely heavier than the compact Galaxy S25.
Under the hood, the device is tipped to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage — specifications on par with the Galaxy S25 Plus. However, it could house a rather modest 3,900mAh battery, which may raise questions about longevity, especially with its high-resolution display and AI features.
Apart from the confirmed 200MP main lens, the Galaxy S25 Edge is also said to feature a 12MP ultrawide camera — the latter matching what’s available on the standard Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25 Plus. While some fans had hoped for the new 50MP ultrawide found in the Ultra, this omission keeps the Edge just shy of Ultra-level photography.
Color options expected at launch include Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icyblue, with more variants possibly launching later as Samsung Store exclusives.
The price range for the Galaxy S25 Edge is estimated to be between US$1,200 and $1,400. It’s likewise rumored that the iPhone 17 Air will start at $900.
