Samsung is introducing a new OLED Display Panel at Computex that uses an Oxide Backplane that is aimed for the 2026 MacBook Pro

It’s being reported this morning that Samsung Display announced late yesterday that it will unveil for the first time an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) using an oxide backplane (TFT) at 'Computex 2025' this week.

Samsung Display explained, "(The 8th generation OLED line) is preparing for mass production in 2026."

The Elec reports that the name of the IT OLED product that uses oxide TFT is 'UT One'. 'UT' stands for ultra-thin structure, and 'One' stands for low-power technology that enables a variable refresh rate of 1 Hz.

Samsung Display said, "UT is 30% thinner and 30% lighter than existing products (rigid OLED)." "The weight reduced by applying UT is similar to that of one laptop battery cell (50g), and can increase battery capacity or improve portability."

This product is the first OLED to support a 1Hz variable refresh rate by applying oxide TFT. Depending on the display content, the refresh rate can be switched from 1Hz to 120Hz, saving power consumption.

Apple's OLED iPad Pro released last year was the first to use hybrid OLED (glass substrate + thin film encapsulation). The TFT of the iPad Pro OLED was a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) method. The variable refresh rate of this product was 10~120Hz. Samsung Display and LG Display supplied the panels.

Samsung Display is building an 8th generation OLED line with a monthly production capacity of 15,000 (15K) sheets based on the 8th generation glass plate input.

The first deposition machine (machine No. 1) is expected to mainly produce OLEDs for Apple MacBook Pros, and the second deposition machine is expected to mainly produce IT OLEDs to be supplied to companies other than Apple.
