Next-Gen batteries for smartphones will be led by Chinese OEM’s like realme who just revealed their 60-patent backed 10,000mAh battery
In late December 2024 Patently Apple posted a report titled “Chinese Smartphone OEMs plan to increase battery capacity in 2025 by using a new high silicon material which Apple is eyeing for 2026.” The report noted that one of the new smartphone trends coming in 2025 will be larger batteries. According to industry sources, Chinese smartphone manufacturers Oppo, OnePlus, Xiaomi's Redmi, and Realme are developing smartphones with batteries with 6000-8000mAh (milliampere). This figure exceeds the current battery capacity of the iPhone 16 Pro Max at 4,685mAh by a wide margin.
Today, realme’s Chase Xu, VP and CMO announced their work on the GT 10000 mAh smartphone battery is backed by 60 international patents.
The GT 10,000mAh concept employs a silicon-content anode cell that comprises of a 10 percent silicon ratio and an energy density of 887Wh/L.

Will Apple be able to match this in 2026? While it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see Apple match such a high capacity battery, the question becomes how much of a boost could we expect from Apple’s work on their next generation battery. Perhaps one of these days, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman will be able to fill us in on the timing of Apple's future high-end batteries for iPhone.
