Samsung Display will supply organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays for the 13-inch Apple iPad Pro model. Following the 11-inch model last year, it has entered the 13-inch supply chain this year. It is expected to compete with LG Display in terms of quantity.

ETNews further noted that the display supply chain confirmed that Samsung Display has received approval to supply the 13-inch iPad Pro model. A person familiar with the matter said, “With the quality certification passed, Samsung Display is preparing to produce 13-inch products,” and “Mass production and delivery are scheduled to begin in May.”

Competition between Samsung Display and LG Display over Apple's iPad Pro supply is expected to be fierce. This is because the number of display suppliers has increased while overall demand is the same. Samsung Display's target quantity is known to be around 3.5 million units, including 11-inch and 13-inch units.

Samsung Display is expected to adopt a material set called 'T2 Prime' for the iPad Pro 13-inch OLED whereas last year's 11-inch model OLED supplied last year was made with a material set called 'T2'.

Samsung Display is also expected to develop OLED for the iPad mini, which is scheduled to be released in 2026. This is the first time that OLED has been adopted for the iPad mini. The display is known to have a size of 8.5 inches, a 'single stack' that stacks the light-emitting layer in a single layer like the iPhone, and a low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistor (TFT) as its main features. It is interpreted that the iPad is also in the process of switching to OLED like the iPhone.
