Samsung invents a Portable Smart Ring Battery Charger for a future Version of the Galaxy Ring that could add a mini Display
In Q2 2025, the European Patent Office published a patent application of Samsung’s regarding a possible future smart ring designed to connect to a portable ring-like battery so that the Galaxy Ring could work around the clock, if need be, without having to remove it for changing on a separate charger.
The invention envisions a Galaxy Ring that includes a housing with a coupling portion detachably connectable to an external device in a ring shape. The ring-shaped battery would simply appear as a second ring on a person’s finger. The design promotes a simple plugin design supported by magnets to keep the two rings connected while charging
The patent figures below are simple to understand how Samsung envisions this coupling to take place.
Samsung also provides an alternative design where the battery just snaps on the top of the ring as presented in patent FIGS. 3A and 3B below.
Additionally, the alternative design could offer other specific advantages. Samsung notes that the ring’s snap-on battery style would also include a mini display (#340). The mini display may visually provide information to the user). The display may further include, for example, a holographic device, a projector, and the like, and could include control circuitry for controlling the device without limitation.
In one embodiment, the mini display could include a touch sensor configured to detect a touch, or a pressure sensor configured to measure a magnitude of a force generated by the touch.
In one embodiment, the display may visually display an image to the outside to enhance the aesthetics of the second electronic device (a custom logo or initials or more)
In one embodiment, the mini display may include a material that is visually distinct from other areas of the second electronic device (300). In one embodiment, when the display includes a material that is visually distinct from other areas of the second electronic device (300), the aesthetics of the second electronic device (300) may be improved.
