Gurman: Apple is working on Smartglasses with Apple Intelligence to take on Ray-Ban Meta and more

Mark Gurman reported on Sunday that Apple's smartglasses, codenamed N50, is continuing to be developed with AI features. Even though it could be costly for the company, it is looking to get work done to release a product that competes directly with Meta's Ray-Bans.

Mark Gurman claims that Apple's ultimate goal is to make augmented reality glasses that work and behave more or less the same way as Vision Pro. Yet that will require a lot of time and money. It could become the next big project for the company, with the potential to grow as big as the iPhone itself, if Apple sticks the landing with the price.

Until the AR glasses are ready, Apple wants to first compete with existing players on the market, like Meta, by introducing a pair of AI smart glasses which would be a key selling point.

Regarding the price of Apple's smart glasses, Gurman predicts that "Apple's smartglasses will be priced at an affordable level."

Apple is also developing a camera-equipped AirPods model, which is expected to implement visual intelligence technology based on the camera.

Both Apple's currently developing smart glasses and camera-equipped AirPods are likely to be released around 2027.

On another point, Gurman noted that Apple is developing two  20th anniversary edition iPhones for 2027. The first is the long-awaited Apple foldable iPhone, and the second is said to be a glass-centric Pro version

Apple is on record contemplating an all-glass iPhone dating back to a patent filing in 2011 (granted in 2014).  Apple’s latest glass-centric iPhone concept was granted earlier this month in a report titled “Apple wins Patent revealing possible future all-glass iPhone that allows Imagery on both Front & Backsides, plus an all-Glass Mac Pro Tower +“ with one of the patent figures presented below.
