Vivo, Apple's number one smartphone competitor in China, is introducing their 'Vivo Vision' headset this week that is rumored to debut this fall
One of Apple's top Chinese competitors in smartphones is Vivo who went head to head with Apple in Q4-24. Other than Apple's one peak quarter, Vivo is ahead of Apple. With that momentum, Vivo this week is showing off a prototype of their 'Vivo Vision" XR headset at this week's 'Boao Forum Asia event.
The branding is mirroring Apple Vision, the face display, power plug, battery pack, and headband all mimic if not copy Apple Vision Pro. Apple legal will have to review this design carefully, as Apple has dozens of design patents covering Vision Pro.
The device is rumored to be coming to China's market this fall, according to Gizchina. And with Apple having entered the robot research arena, Vivo is set to launch the Vivo Robotics Laboratory.
Hu Baishan, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer at vivo, and President of the vivo Central Research Institute, revealed that vivo has officially established the vivo Robotics Lab. By leveraging vivo’s decade of “BlueTech” experience in fields like AI large learning models and imaging, together with the real-time spatial computing capabilities accumulated through vivo Vision, vivo will focus on developing two core areas, the “brain” and “eyes” of robots. At the same time, vivo will focus on the consumer market, developing robotic products for personal and home use.
Will Vivo undercut the Apple Vision Pro price? Count on it. How will Apple react? Only time will tell. This should be interesting to see unfold this fall.
