Google Reportedly Close To Acquiring Cloud Security Giant Wiz

the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported late yesterday that Google's parent Alphabet has rekindled its interest in acquiring the cybersecurity startup Wiz and has raised its asking price to US$30 billion. The WSJ first reported on this back in July 2024 when a offer of $23 Billion was rejected by Wiz.

Now, Alphabet is in advanced negotiations for the acquisition and a final agreement may be reached soon. If the deal goes through, it will be the largest acquisition in Alphabet's history .

Wiz claims it secures corporate cloud infrastructure “by creating a normalizing layer between cloud environments,” enabling businesses to “rapidly identify and remove critical risks”. Google acquiring such a specialist cloud cybersecurity business and integrating its tools and solutions across its portfolio could have a seismic impact on the industry

integrating Wiz’s advanced security technologies into Google’s cloud infrastructure would provide a momentous boost to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This would bolster its appeal to businesses prioritizing robust cybersecurity, an area where Google has historically trailed behind Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

With its dominance in enterprise cloud products and services via Azure and thorough security offerings like Microsoft Defender, a more comprehensive Google and Wiz solution would see Microsoft face increased competition. Wiz’s capabilities could enable Google to offer more secure and comprehensive cloud solutions, potentially attracting customers from Microsoft’s base.
