Apple has Appointed Mike Rockwell to take the Helm of the AI Project tasked with advancing Siri
Last Friday Patently Apple posted a report titled "Apple's Top Executive overseeing its Siri Virtual Assistant told staff that the delays to Key Features have been Ugly and Embarrassing." This morning it's being report that Apple has shuffled its executive team in an effort to improve its troubled digital voice assistant Siri, Bloomberg reported.
Mike Rockwell, who had worked on the Vision Pro, will now take over the team working on Siri, the news outlet added, citing people familiar with the matter. Rockwell will report directly to software chief Craig Federighi. Rockwell's former group, the Vision Products Group, will be led by Paul Meade, who previously ran the hardware engineering team for the Vision Pro.
In conjunction, John Giannandrea, who is Apple's senior vice president of Machine Learning and AI Strategy, will no longer have Siri under his belt. Giannandrea joined Apple in 2018 from Google to help the iPhone maker with its artificial intelligence work.
Giannandrea is expected to remain at the company and work on a number of other responsibilities, including research, testing and other facets of Apple's AI work, the news outlet added. There is also a team working on robotics that reports to Giannandrea.
The change, which was made by Chief Executive Tim Cook, comes after top executives at Apple met at an offsite meeting this week to discuss a wide range of topics, including the issues surrounding Siri. For more, read the full Bloomberg report.
