In Q4-24 Apple's iPhone Dominance in the U.S. Market Gained Ground and delivered more than 3.5X Samsung's Galaxy lineup
Earlier this morning Patently Apple posted a statistical report titled "In Q4-24 Apple's iPhone was the leading smartphone in Europe, overtaking Samsung," based on a Counterpoint Research report. This next report covers a secondary report from Counterpoint regarding U.S. Smartphone Market Share from Q3-23 to Q4-24 with Apple capturing 65% of smartphone sales in Q4-24, the highest since Q3-23 at the very least.
Market Highlights
- In Q4 2024, US smartphone sell-in decreased 9% YoY as demand continued to be impacted by low upgrade rates and long upgrade cycles.
- While Apple’s shipments with the iPhone 16 was not as strong as expected, Apple gained U.S. Market Share. The late launch of Apple Intelligence impacted the numbers.
- Samsung’s sell-in decreased 4% YoY, as prepaid demand slowed in Q4 combined with slightly less demand for premium devices YoY.
- Motorola increased 4% YoY primarily due to an improved prepaid positioning compared to other OEMs like HMD, which saw a loss in share.
- Google’s shipments increased 1% YoY due to larger shipments of devices as the Pixel 9 series has four SKUs compared to the Pixel 8 series' two SKUs.
