A new Samsung patent reveals that they want to advance their Smart Ring to control other devices like PC Displays+
Apple has been filing smart ring patents for years. Apple most recently revealed that they're thinking beyond mere health sensors but for an Apple ring that could control multiple devices. Apple's patent figures illustrates that it will work with a TV or the Apple TV box, working with turning on Home laps – which falls into line with a report we posted this morning titled "The Smart Home: The Ultimate Apple Ecosystem Lock-In."
While Samsung introduced their first-gen smart ring focused on health features last summer, a new patent published on January 30, 2025 reveals possible plans to advance their ring in the future in a way to match and surpass Apple's 2024 patent that would deliver a more multipurpose smart ring that could interact with other devices such as computer displays.
Samsung's patent FIG. 5 below is a cross-sectional view of a possible advanced Smart Ring in the future that goes beyond mere health sensors; FIG. 7, 9 and 10 illustrate a ring controling multiple computer displays.
For those interested, there's a lot of details, turns and twists to dive into under Samsung's patent application WO2025023564. In a way, the ring will enable a user to move data from one device to another like Apple's Continuity feature.
