A Korean Rumor claims that Samsung's first Trifold Smartphone to compete with Huawei's Mate XT will be branded the 'Galaxy G Fold'

1 Samsung Patent Trifold phone FIGS

On Sunday, Patently Apple posted an IP report titled "Samsung's third Trifold smartphone patent published in the last 60 days covers different folding angles & controlling its multiple cameras." A rumor report today from TechNews, that originated from Korean blogger yeux1122, claims that the upcoming trifold phone from Samsung will be named Galaxy G Fold.

The report further notes that Samsung's G Fold will fold on both sides, which is different from Huawei's tri-fold product. The Galaxy G Fold is 9.96 inches wide and 6.54 inches high. According to leaks, the weight of the Galaxy G Fold is expected to be the same as Huawei's Mate XT, about At 298 grams, it will be 36.7% heavier than the Galaxy S25 Ultra's 218 grams.

The Galaxy G Fold is expected to weigh 31.3% more than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which weighs 227 grams.

The Galaxy G Fold folds inward from the left and right sides. When fully folded, it can provide some protection for the large internal screen. The back of the phone is equipped with a smaller screen so that users can use it when they don’t need to fully unfold it. It can perform some simple operations, and this design can make the overall thickness of the phone less than 1 mm.

Rumors continue to claim that Samsung will release their first Trifold later this year. While it would be great to see a competitor to the Huawei Mate XT arise, the pricing will keep it out of the hands of the masses for many years. It's definitely an Elitist's tool and/or toy.
