Patently Apple posted two reports in September and November on the Samsung/Qualcomm/Google alliance regarding future XR devices and entry-level smartglasses considered an accessory for Android smartphones. This morning Ajunews is reporting that Samsung Electronics is expected to unveil a prototype of an extended reality (XR) device early next year.

It is highly likely that Samsung Electronics will unveil a prototype of their augmented reality (AR) glasses at their Galaxy S25 Unpack event scheduled for early next year.

Unlike Apple's previously released mixed reality (MR) headset 'Vision Pro', this device is expected to have the shape of regular glasses or sunglasses and weigh about 50g. It is expected to have functions such as payment using artificial intelligence (AI), gesture recognition, and facial recognition.

As the XR platform is software, it is likely to be released in the form of an operating system (OS) update. The industry expects that the product release after the prototype release will take place in the third quarter of next year.

Samsung Research America (SRA) established the 'System on Chip (SoC) Architecture Lab' late last year as part of a strategic plan to accelerate Samsung Electronics' entry into the immersive computing market to challenge Apple Vision Pro.
