There was a seven year period between 2008 and 2015 wherein Apple patents revealed a project in development to deliver a 3D version of macOS and iOS (01, 02, 03, 04 and 05). To understand what a 3D environment would actually look like, one of our reports published a YouTube video as presented below.

Today we're learning that JD.com, Inc., a Chinese e-commerce company headquartered in Beijing that works with Apple has released the world's firrst "naked-eye 3D GUI. the first batch of applications will be applied to some recent new products from brands such as Huawei, Philips, DJI, Yves Saint Laurent, and Xijia, providing users with 3D dynamic visual effects and shopping experience.

JD.com said: "Without wearing glasses or using other devices, users can open the JD.com App on their mobile phones and see a 360-degree stereoscopic display of products. By slightly swinging the phone, they can also see dynamic information about products from different angles . It is as if a three-dimensional display window has been built in the mobile phone space, providing a more realistic and rich visual experience, making the entire shopping process more interesting."

The Project's marketing plan uses the mobile phone surface as a window to place 3D models, and uses end-to-end intelligent technology to achieve real-time rendering of a variety of special effects. It is the first time that a three-dimensional and dynamic display effect has been successfully achieved on mobile devices.

IT Home noted that JD.com has previously launched a series of XR products such as AR makeup trials, AR displays, and home model rooms. In June this year, it launched the "JD.Vision" Apple Vision Pro app, which allows users to "drag" products to their homes in a 1:1 ratio.

If  JD.com's 3D-GUI project become a success, could Apple revive their project? Only time will tell.
