Canalys reports on Tablet Shipments in Mainland China only for Q3-24 leaving out Hong Kong shipments where Apple has a strong base
A new analytical report shows that tablets in Mainland China maintained their momentum during the pre-holiday season, with year-on-year growth of 5%. “New trends are emerging in the tablet space, including products designed for kids’ education and cloud-based user experiences,” said Xu. “These trends are increasingly leveraging AI to enhance functionality, with focuses on education, government and home-based use. AI-driven innovations are creating new opportunities in the tablet market, offering the potential for significant growth in specialized sectors.”
While China believes in a One China Policy wherein there's only one sovereign state under the name China, with the PRC serving as the sole legitimate government of that China, analytical companies like Canalys love to report on Mainland China and ignore Hong Kong statistics where Apple's sales are strong. Without including Hong Kong, it suppresses Apple's total sales in China. Between that and the Government pushing Chinese brands over Apple (foreign) for work and school, is it any surprise that Huawei is propped up as the leader in tablets in China?
