Apple is working with Samsung and LG on a future iPhone with Under-Panel Camera and Zero Bezel technologies

A new supply chain report this morning claims that Samsung Display and LG Display are known to be developing organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) for iPhones without bezels at Apple’s request, but the timing of mass production is still unclear. Apple originally planned to release a zero bezel OLED iPhone in 2025~2026, according to The Elec

According to multiple industry sources on the 24th, the launch of the zero bezel OLED iPhone is currently unclear even in 2026. This is because the technology to completely eliminate the bezels is not yet fully developed.

An industry insider said, "If Apple wanted to release a zero-bezel OLED iPhone in 2026, it would have to have already concluded technical discussions with domestic panel manufacturers, but they are still in discussions," adding, "As of now, it is unclear whether a zero-bezel iPhone will be released in 2026."

Apple is said to want to implement a zero bezel display while maintaining the flat display and angular design of the existing iPhone. The display is designed to flow down the side of the product, similar to the display currently being applied to the Apple Watch. Some in the industry say that the area should be implemented in a 'pebble shape.'

In order for Samsung Display and LG Display to implement zero bezel as requested by Apple, they must develop thin film encapsulation (TFE) technology to protect OLED from moisture and oxygen, and optical clear adhesive (OCA) technology used when bonding with a transparent double-sided adhesive film, tailored to the curved side of the display, and secure space for antennas, etc.

Among various technologies, it is known that the acquisition of OCA technology is particularly slow. This is because the side view distortion problem has not been completely resolved after the OCA process. Another issue that needs to be resolved is the problem of the display easily breaking due to external impact when designed to flow down the side of the product.

With the implementation of under-panel camera UPC technology and zero bezel technology that hide the camera under the display, users can enjoy a true full screen. Apple has been gradually thinning the iPhone display bezels in recent years. The goal is to expand user immersion.

Apple has been working on UPC for a number of years according to their patents (01 and 02).
