Apple invents a new UI Element for Apple TV that includes a Home Icon allowing users to check out Security Cams throughout a home

2 Apple Home Security Patent

Last Tuesday, Patently Apple posted an IP report titled "Apple wins a patent for a Home Security Camera System that recognizes visitors or intruders using Face ID & new 'Bodyprint' ID."  Today the U.S. Patent Office published a patent application of Apple's that relates to possible future Apple TV control user interface elements. For example, the user can select a setting that only allows an electronic device to access certain devices when detecting smart home devices associated with the electronic device. More specifically, Apple points to Apple TV having a security Home Icon that could pull up the cameras throughout a home and even to outdoor cameras.

In Apple's patent FIG. 6G below, the electronic device (#500: a tv or iPad) displays user interface #626 corresponding to a user interface associated with one or more smart home devices.

In some embodiments, the TV or iPad displays the user interface #626 in FIG. 6G in response to receiving the input. In some embodiments, the smart home devices are associated with a currently active user account, and/or with a TV. In some embodiments, user the interface includes selectable options #628, such as selectable option #628-1 and selectable option #628-2. In some embodiments, the selectable options #628 are arranged and correspond to smart home devices associated with a portion of a dwelling, such as a room of a house, of the user.

For example, selectable option #628-1 is associated with a living room of the user's home, and selectable option #628-2 is associated with a porch of the user's home.

in some embodiments, the TV detects input directed to the Apple TV remote #610 and changes focus within user interface #626, without scrolling user interface #604. For example, Apple TV remote detects input including movement of contacts #620g across trackpad #611, requesting a change in focus within user interface #626.

In FIG. 6i, the selectable options are arranged at the top of the TV display and correspond to smart home devices associated with a portion of a dwelling, such as a room of a house, of the user. For example, a selectable option #626 (FIG. 6G) is associated with a living room of the user's home, and selectable option 628-2 is associated with a porch of the user's home.

Most Apple inventions don't want to be limited to just one device like a remote for Apple TV which is clearly shown in the patent. So Apple claims that this invention could apply to other devices in the future such as Macs, an iPad, a navigation device, an educational device (such as a child's learning toy), a gaming system, or a control device (e.g., a home or industrial controller).

Apple filed for this patent in June 2024 which was published today by the USPTO.
