While Apple’s iPhone held Steady in Vietnam and Thailand in Q3 2024, Chinese Vendors continue to dominate the Southeast Asian market
For Q3 2024 Apple’s iPhone came in third spot in Vietnam holding 18% market share. In Thailand Apple came in third spot with 14% market share.
In Q3, Apple’s new iPhones were banned in Indonesia for not investing enough in that country. Apple had spent USD95 million and were USD15 million shy of what the Indonesian government demanded.
In recent days, Apple proposed USD10 million to establish a facility in Indonesia dedicated to producing more products in Indonesia as part of a move to lift a ban on the sale of its latest iPhone in the Southeast Asian country. Apple now awaits the governments decision to lift the ban so that Apple could fairly compete in Indonesia.
In general, today’s analytical report from Canalys shows that China smartphone makers dominate the Southeast Asian smartphone market. In the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia, Chinese OEM’s held 4 out of the top 5 positions in Q3-24.
Apple’s next gen iPhone SE 4 is to help Apple in emerging markets and it’ll be interesting to see the effect it will have in the second half of 2025.
