Apple Invents Advancements for CarPlay with Dynamic Display of Map Information
Today the U.S. Patent Office published a patent application of Apple's that relates to enhancing CarPlay with user interfaces with dynamic display of Map Information.
User Interfaces with Dynamic Display of Map Information
Apple’s invention provides efficient ways of presenting content to a user via a maps application of an electronic device that may improve the user's experience with the electronic device and reduce the number of inputs needed to view relevant information in a maps application, thereby reducing power usage and improving the battery life of the electronic device.
Some embodiments described are directed to CarPlay configured to initiate display of or control display of map information via one or more displays of a vehicle.
By dynamically presenting a map of an area from a variety of viewpoints via one or more displays of the vehicle, the electronic device decreases time and processing required to display map information, which is particularly important when operating a vehicle.
The system allows Apple’s Map app on CarPlay to transfer to the instrument cluster in front of the driver so that the driver only has to shift their eyes to see the map of choice rather than having to shift their head to see various maps.
Apple’s patent FIGS. 6A-C illustrate examples of an electronic device displaying a map of a geographic area from different viewpoints within a map user interface of a map application. It also presents various instructions the driver gives to Siri to change aspects of the maps.
