In May 2024, Apple introduced 'Apple Pencil Pro' with new 'Squeeze, Barrel Roll,"  and other features, adding value to iPad. With Samsung tablets being a distant second in Q2-24, Samsung introduced their new Galaxy Tab S10 tablets with AI enhancements and a whopping 15" display weeks ago. One of the future additions that may come to Samsung's pro tables is an all-new 'Optical Pen,' according to a new October 10^th patent filing.

What's unique to their possible future optical pen is that the writing surface may be a surface on which a letter, a picture, and the like are written with the optical pen, such as paper and/or a display panel.

According to Samsung the new optical pen may be an input device of a display device. For example, the user may write a letter, draw a picture, and the like on the display panel using the protrusion (#200 FIG. 1 below) of the optical pen, the optical pen may provide to the display device information such as a position and an angle of the optical pen.

In one example, the display device provides information to an electronic device through a light sensor (#400 of FIG. 2) and an electronic device may display the letter, the picture, and the like written or drawn by the user on the display device.

In another embodiment, an opening through which an ink comes out may be formed in the protrusion. In this case, the user may write a letter, draw a picture, and the like on a paper or the like by using the protrusion of the optical pen. The patent Figures below describe various aspects and angles of the Optical Pen. 

Considering that this is a utility patent and not a design patent, the design shown is simply to emphasize elements of the Optical Pen but not the final design of the pen.
