Apple Inc., whose smartwatch dominates the market for fitness-tracking technology, has been exploring the prospect of a future ring device (01, 02, 03 and more) for a wide range of applications including health monitoring and working with future smartglasses, Apple TV+ and more. While Apple is in exploring mode, Ōura, a Finnish health technology company known for its fitness-tracking rings is preparing for their next-gen ring after Samsung launched their health-centric ring back in July.

Today we're learning that Ōura Health will see sales of $500 million for this year by selling 2.5 million rings.

People with knowledge of the company's plans say that the company will be introducing a fourth-generation ring in October. The device will have a thinner design and better battery life, as well as more accurate activity tracking, they said. It’s set to be the company’s biggest product overhaul in three years.

n addition to tracking fitness, Ōura rings assess the quality of a user’s sleep and provide a “readiness score.” About 80% of Ōura's revenue comes from hardware, with the rest provided by software subscriptions, Hale said in the interview. Ōura expects the percentage from software to rise over time, and the company is two years ahead of its profitability goals, Hale said."

Android Authority posted a rumor report on the coming Ōura Ring that you could check out here.

Apple's delay may be due its broader vision for a future ring going far beyond mere health features that are currently being handled by their global leading Apple Watch.
