On September 10, 2024, Patently Apple posted a supply chain report titled "Japan’s JDI recently sent OLED Samples to Apple at 1500 DPI for the development of a lower-end Vision Pro device." The report noted that it was discovered that JDI recently sent OLED samples to Apple for an MR device based on glass substrates at a 1500PPI level. It is known that the samples sent by JDI also used Sony technology.

Today, two weeks later, Digitimes is repeating the same news with one major deviation. Digitimes points to the sample from JDI being based on new glass core substrate (GCS) OLED technology, rather than the OLEDoS technology that Apple originally requested.

Reports suggest that after receiving the OLED sample from JDI, Apple is considering developing a budget MR device based on GCS OLED. South Korean media outlets expect other display manufacturers to follow suit in providing samples to Apple in hopes of securing orders.

It is speculated that SDC is likely to develop GCS-based OLED displays with a pixel density of around 1,500 PPI on its A2 production line. For more on this, read the full Digitimes report.
