In Q2-24 Apple and Huawei were tied in Mainland China for first place with both companies having 26% Market Share
Globally, Apple remained the King of tablets with 36% market share in Q2-24 with Huawei came in a distant fourth place with a measly 6.8% market share. Narrowing it down to only Mainland China (Hong Kong excluded for some reason) Apple and Huawei were statistically tied for top spot as less than 1% is a statistical tie, even though Canalys decided to put Huawei in first place. Both companies are shown to have 26% market share in the chart below.
Canalys Analyst Emma Xu: "China’s tablet market is highly competitive, as more smartphone vendors expand their portfolios to include tablets. Additionally, the AI opportunity is attracting more vendors from the education and Internet sectors into the devices market, driving the development of kids’ tablets with educational content in Mainland China. These factors are fostering renewed interest in tablets, prompting upgrades to products with better specifications at lower prices. To drive stronger business outcomes, vendors must focus on market expansion and differentiation to enhance user experiences and outcomes. Leveraging on-device AI models will be particularly beneficial in this regard."
Why oh why does Canalys restrict statistics to "Mainland" China and exclude Hong Kong China stats where Apple usually leads in iPhones and tablets? It's like producing a U.S. tablet report excluding California.
