Taiwan's United Daily News reports today that the chairman of the main Pegatron plant, Tong Zixian, told reporters yesterday at a company family day baseball game, that they shouldn't be focused on a month or two performance of iPhone 16 shipments. He sees the industry as being more optimistic than last year.

Currently, iPhone assembly is mainly done by Hon Hai Group, Mainland China's Luxshare Precision and Pegatron as the three major suppliers. Tong Zixian's optimistic view on the second half of the year will help alleviate market concerns about poor sales of the new iPhone 16 series.

Tong Zixian bluntly said: "There is no way in my job to predict just one month or two months. Sometimes products vary due to different launch rhythms. Sometimes the peak season may even be postponed to January of the following year."

A side note: With all the hoopla over Meta's distant future AR Glasses project branded Orion, it should be noted that Apple supplier Pegatron introduced a pair of AR Glasses at CES 2024 as presented below.

Pegatron, one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturing companies, and Dispelix, a leading see-through waveguide display developer for extended reality (XR), were proud to unveil their new reference design for AR glasses during the Consumer Electronics Show, CES 2024 in Las Vegas.

The newly launched AR glasses reference design serves as a streamlined platform for consumer and enterprise original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), enabling them to realize and launch their final AR products with a reduced time to market and full system-level compatibility.

The reference design’s binocular full-color display module consists of Dispelix’s diffractive waveguide displays and miniature LCoS projectors. The glasses also integrate a set of other key components, including an 8-megapixel camera, microphone, and speakers in a lightweight and compact form. The reference design addresses various consumer and enterprise use cases. While serving OEM customers as a platform, the reference design also offers an interface for the development of various AI and AR applications that benefit from an advanced AR display experience. For example, one of the experiences demonstrated with the reference design is simultaneous translation. For more on this, read the January 2024 press release from Dispelix.
