Kuo: Apple's iPhone 17 Pro Max will include a new Vapor Chamber in an updated Cooling System

Google's latest Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL now come with a new vapor chamber cooling system that greatly improves the cooling capabilities, especially when playing graphic intensive games.

In January 2021 a rumor report by Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo hinted at Apple  aggressively testing a new vapor chamber thermal system due to the iPhone's stronger computing power and faster 5G connection speeds. However Kuo was vague about when this feature could be coming to market.

Three and a half years later Ming-Chi Kuo's latest research notes posted late tonight, reveals that the 2025 iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature the following specifications:

  1. 12GB DRAM (while the ultra-thin iPhone, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and SE4 will all have 8GB). Enhanced on-device AI capabilities will likely be a major selling point for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

  1. An upgraded cooling system combining vapor chamber (VC) technology and graphite sheets. Other 2025 new iPhone models will continue to use graphite sheets alone for thermal management.

Pro Max currently accounts for nearly 40% of new model shipments, making the most significant contribution to Apple's revenue and profit among hardware products. The differentiation strategy of providing the best specifications (beyond a larger display size than Pro) for Pro Max is expected to continue.
