A new analytical report Smartwatch shipments remained static compared with Q2 2023. Apple remained the global leader with 49%, more than 3X that of Samsung at 15%.

Canalys Research Manager Cynthia Chen stated that "Canalys anticipates double-digit growth in smartwatch shipments in H2 2024, driven by new offerings from Apple, Samsung and Google. These ecosystem vendors are set to introduce advanced health and fitness tracking features.

Canalys notes that "smartwatch vendors must introduce new differentiators or use cases, such as gesture controls or GenAI integration, which leverage the superior computing power of smartwatches. These advanced features will be vital to maintain the appeal of smartwatches."

Because Apple so dominates the "smartwatch" sector, Canalys spent more time propping up dumb watches and bands; devices. that shouldn't even be in a high-tech smartwatch segment to begin with.

Canalys spent more time praising Garmin which was in third spot than Apple who dominates the field. Perhaps in the second half of the year that narrative will change back to where it should be, on the leader Apple.

Bloomberg predicts that Apple will launch the new Apple Watch Series 10 models with thinner and larger displays which may be closer in size to their  Ultra model to help spark sales. New features that could be coming to Apple watch are still under wraps.
